We’re back from our summer vacation! Mexico was amazing, but it’s also so good to be back in Santa Cruz. It’s always a surprise returning to where you live, if you’ve been gone for a while: plants grow–or die, if they haven’t been watered (ours didn’t–thank you, Kyle!!); critters make themselves at home in your home, dust settles. Actually, there wasn’t too much to clean up this time, but I kept wondering why our hens didn’t seem to be laying any eggs yet. We got the baby chicks in spring and they should all be laying an egg a day by now. During the last few weeks their feathers had been growing (and their confidence, too) and now they fly over the chicken coop fence, which enabled them to pick any spot in the garden for their offspring. Why lay your eggs in the box, if you can choose any place?! Soon the kids found one nest in the bamboo, and today I found another spot in the vegetable garden! Can you find the eggs?
