I just came back from a long trip (yay travelling!) and after getting out of the car, the first thing I did was walk into the Wellstone garden. It’s like meeting your children again after not having seen them for a year! They’re so big!! All the plants exploded in my absence—especially the squash patch, which has been expanding in all directions. And we have cucumbers now and beans and strawberries. The tomatoes and onions and corn and potatoes have been making nice progress. What joy! Big thanks to Alaina Joleen, who took loving care of my babies!
Yesterday for Monday Night Dinner I celebrated by making a big meal for our current writers, Noriko Nakada and Hazel Witham: peri peri chicken from our own flock (oh yes, we slaughtered a chicken, too!), goat-cheese-filled squash blossoms, fava bean spread and garden salad. I hear it was pretty good.
