When author Christopher McDougall came to Santa Cruz on May 27 to talk about his new book, Natural Born Heroes, in a special event sponsored by Bookshop Santa Cruz, Steve and Sarah were both there – and what an evening it was. McDougall showed up late, out of breath, having run over (barefoot, naturally), and then proceeded to give a riveting talk about his new book. Fans of McDougall’s bestseller Born to Run – and group that includes Steve – will want to check out this new work, which showcases McDougall’s remarkable skills as a researcher, his effortless way with a good yarn and the passion for his subject that boils just beneath the surface of his relaxed prose, thrilling and precise, but never overwrought.
